Pakistan umpire got arrested

The former Pakistan Test cricketer and umpire Akram Raza, who was fined in a match-fixing inquiry 11 years ago has been arrested along with 6 alleged bookies, for taking bets on the ongoing IPL. They arrested 7 men and one of them has been identified as Akram Raza a former Pakistan player. They recovered cash, mobile phones and many telephone numbers in India. The arrested persons, include Raza, have been lodged at the Gulberg station but not charged as yet. They are investigating to find out their modus operandi and connections. Akram Raza, who played 9 Tests and 49 ODIs for Pakistan, is presently on the PCB first class umpires panel.

He was also named in the match fixing scandal that first broke out in Pakistan cricket 16 years back and was fined by the inquiry commission for match-fixing in 2000. Raza is a close friend of former Pakistan captain Salim Malik who was banned for life time by the same commission for match-fixing.
